Column - The need for speed
The current changes and challenges to many aspects of how the European society, including Russia, functions are seen by ITMO University (Saint Petersburg) as a context for innovation and lasting positive change. Being probably the most European of all Russian universities and, at the same time, looking at the EU higher education system from outside, ITMO is focused on best practices and sustainable models in the European Union as we work towards our common goal of relevant, inclusive, visionary higher education. We are excited about the European Universities Initiative, which is essentially a consortium model that relies on building joint educational platforms and bringing together the best courses to be offered to students in different member states. Moreover, we think that this approach has a great potential for a tangible positive impact on education and research, and are actively looking into adapting it to the Russian reality.
